Govt. wants life sentence for Ark doc in bombing

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say Russellville doctor Randeep Mann should go to prison for life and pay $1.7 million in restitution after his conviction in a bombing that nearly killed the chief of the Arkansas Medical Board. But Mann's lawyers say the bomb wasn't designed to kill and that should be reflected in the sentence.

Mann is to appear Monday in federal court at Little Rock for his sentencing, along with his wife, Sangeeta Mann, who was tried with her husband and convicted of obstruction of justice. The two were convicted last year in the 2009 attack on Dr. Trent Pierce of West Memphis.

Prosecutors say the bombing was revenge for Pierce's role on the Medical Board, which revoked Mann's license to prescribe narcotics after several of his patients suffered fatal overdoses.
