Program provides utility assistance for those in need

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Winter has been tough for some when it comes to their heating bills. And the Crowley's Ridge Development Council has a program that could help applicants.

Beginning on March 1st the "Crisis Utility Assistance" or LiHeap Program for the Crowley's Ridge Development Council, which is a non profit organization designed to help those that are in need and the LiHeap Program is a big part of that.

"The utility assistance program is there for those that have problems with high utility bills." says Jackie Gunn of LiHeap, "We find a lot of people that are on fixed income and are not able to pay those bills."

For this service you have to have a shut off notice or be disconnected. The council can pay up to $700 on a past due bill and has a 48-hour window. Certain income qualifications are necessary to receive assistance as well.

You can contact the Crowley's Ridge Development Council or LiHeap at (870) 935-8610, for more information.
