Elected officials work to get people back to work

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A group of elected officials from around northeastern Arkansas are working together to make sure everything is being done to get people back to work.

The Northeast Arkansas Chief Elected Officials met Tuesday morning in Jonesboro. The purpose of the board is to oversee the funding that goes through the Workforce Investment Board. The board provides funding for on the job training or re-training of people who have lost their jobs.

"The big thing is how will we be funded next year?" says Mike Gaskill, Mayor of Paragould, "We know the mood in Washington looks like it's to cut expenditures and so we don't know if we are going to be cut or added."

The board is made up of county judges and mayors from seven counties. Gaskill says they conducted their quarterly business and brought new members up to speed.
