Contest puts students' math skills to the test

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State University's Department of Mathematics and Statistics held a regional  math contest for 400 high school students on Saturday.

Math skills were put to the test as the students took a one hour test to show their knowledge in different categories of math including Algebra and Calculus.

"The teachers are nervous for them, the students are nervous, but it's more of a nervous excitement." says Dr. Debra Ingram, ASU's Mathematics and Statistics Chair, "They leave here and get experience showing their stuff in math, that's what this is all about." She says the students really strive to do well.

Awards were given to the top test takers in each mathematical category, here is the list of winners:
