Construction begins on former Winter Wonderland building

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Winter Wonderland is out, and the work to bring Gearhead Outfitters in, is underway.

Friday the construction began on the old Winter Wonderland building to works towards opening the new store downtown. Ted Herget, owner of Gearhead Outfitters says they are renovating the century-old building back to its old glory days.

Herget says this new building will be great for Jonesboro as far as tax revenue goes and a great opportunity for the customers as well as the new employees the store will hire, "It's a win-win for everybody." says Herget.

For those who are worrying about the future of Winter Wonderland, Mayor Harold Perrin says it will be moved into the Building/Facilities Department when the city moves to the new county shop. Winter Wonderland will not be charged for the use of the building and Perrin says he looks forward to seeing it reopen again at Christmas time.

As for what the new store will be in the old location of Winter Wonderland, Herget says it will be a bike shop.
