LAKE CHARLES STATE PARK, Ark. -- What would you say to starting off your Labor Day weekend on the lake? Mary Jane Cooper thinks it's great.
"Oh, it's wonderful, it's so clean and the water looks clean and the people that's out here look really good."
Like many others Cooper took advantage of one of the last days of summer outdoors at Lake Charles in Powhatan today. With the summer winding down visitors enjoyed a dip in the lake, grilling out and spending time with the family.
Steve Killian, assistant park superintendent, says possible showers didn't rain on park goers parade. "The weather forecast has been for rain, so far it's been great, it's been sunny and the people that are here are having a great time."
He says the trip is economical as well.
"It's only about 45-50 minutes from Jonesboro so we're close with gas prices being as they are we're a logical stop."
For whatever the occasion those who visited Lake Charles today say they plan to take advantage of the cooler weather before heading into the fall.
