WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) –  A Ravenden man accused of assaulting a woman apparently turned on a couple of jailors.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson, deputies arrested 31-year-old Christopher Whaley Tuesday, March 15, following a 911 call about a domestic disturbance in progress.

When deputies arrived, they said they found damaged property and a woman who had been assaulted.  Whaley was placed under arrest and taken to the Lawrence County Jail.

Dotson says while booking Whaley, jailors discovered a syringe and some pills hidden in Whaley's boot.  He says Whaley "became combative" and assaulted two jailors.  One of the jailors suffered several scratches to his face and a black eye.

Whaley is awaiting a bond hearing on Thursday.

He's charged with domestic battery, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening , possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of assault of a corrections officer.

Considering that the University of Central Arkansas mascot is a bear, it was only natural that one should be found less than a mile from campus.
