PIGGOTT, Ark. -- The two-day manhunt for a Clay County jail escapee is ended.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department confirmed to K8 News that they recaptured 44-year-old Ivran Preston Newcom at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, five miles northwest of Retor.

Newcom was captured after authorities follwed a series of break-ins in Clay County. One home reported a break-in where food and milk were stolen. Eventually, Newcom was found in a mobile home that is only used during hunting season off County Road 420.

Newcom escaped from the jail at Piggott sometime between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Sunday evening, according to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole.

Newcom was being held on charges of incest, and was recently paroled to Arkansas after serving a prison sentence in Kansas.  He is said to have an extensive criminal record and a prior history of violent behavior.
