ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- A southeast Missouri man has pleaded guilty to a federal embezzlement charge.

The U.S. Attorney's office says Martin Herrington, 44, of Kennett, pleaded guilty yesterday in court in St. Louis.

Herrington was a loan officer for First National Bank of Malden.

From September 2001 to September of last year, he prepared 23 fictitious loans totaling nearly $800,000.  He then applied the loans' proceeds to his personal account.

Herrington faces a maximum punishment of 30 years in prison and a one million dollar fine on each of seven counts.  Sentencing is set for December third.
