Marion in Negotiations To Lure Auto Parts Supplier to Crittenden County

September 3, 2003 - Posted at: 5:46 p.m. CDT

MARION, Ark. -- The city of Marion is negotiating to lure an auto parts supplier.  It's already taking steps to accomodate a plant that would bring jobs to the area.

City economic development director Kay Brockwell won't discuss details.

Brockwell won't say how many jobs could be created.  But she does say that if the initial project is a success, it could be followed by a second, larger phase.

Crittenden County Judge Melton Holt says he has been in meetings with Japanese businessmen and representatives from Marion and West Memphis.  Holt says he believes the businessmen are from a company that makes truck parts.  The state Economic Development Department isn't talking.

The city published legal notices in Tuesday's edition of the West Memphis Evening Times announcing public hearings on September 16.  One concerns rezoning and a second asks for changes to permit construction of an industrial facility.
