CHICAGO, IL (KAIT) – According to the Baltimore Sun, Bayer AG has been ordered to pay Riceland Foods $136 million over contamination of U.S. long grain rice stocks over 4 years ago.
The Baltimore Sun says the judgment was handed down by a jury out of Stuttgart. The judgment says Bayer AG owes Richland Foods for contamination of U.S. long grain rice stocks that had a genetically modified strain from Bayer that decimated exports more than four years ago.
The judgment includes $125 million in punitive damages to Riceland and $16.9 million in compensatory damages according to the Baltimore Sun report.
