JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Crowley's Ridge Nature Center is hosting the second annual Spring Break Family Fair now through Saturday.
Every day a number of different events are scheduled to take place. Education Specialist for the Crowley's Ridge Nature Center, Lee Elkins, says there's a good reason they decided to start holding a family fair during spring break. "We decided to start holding a Spring Break Family Fair because kids are out all week. This gives them something to do at no charge and we always have a lot of fun."
Lee says the turnout has been good, so far. "We've had a huge turn out this week, so far. The mothers and dads have all come. The kids have had a great time. Yesterday was Terrific Turkey Day. We made diaphragm turkey calls and we had a turkey shoot with Nerf guns, which was great fun."
Lee says they're working to get families to do more outdoor activities together. On Wednesday, parents and children got to take turns in an archery contest, BB gun contest or an inflatable slide to take a ride down. "It's a great opportunity to come out and spend some good, quality time with your family. The kids always have a good time when they're out here. We have so much to offer. The trails have been a real hit this week, too. And the weather has been so nice."
This isn't the first family fair the Nature Center has held. The Crowley's Ridge Nature Center has been hosting family fairs in the spring and fall for about four years. "We started those to get the families out and have a big day. We do those fairs on Saturdays and just get the parents and children outside doing things all day."
The final reason to check out the Crowley's Ridge Nature Center, Lee says it's educational. "The kids are going to have great time and they're going to learn a lot. For instance, tomorrow is Creature Feature day. We're going to have games and thirty minutes session throughout the day about Arkansas fish, mammals, reptiles and birds of prey. They just have a really good time."
