JONESBORO, AR -- A gathering of gospel greats brings a capacity crowd to ASU's Convocation Center Friday night.
"We came as a church group to kind of give us a time of fellowship, and some of our folks enjoy the Gaither Trio and different other artists that are here tonight," said Nathan Lamirand, a pastor from Missouri.
Concert goer Kathy Belew said, "They're just so heartwarming and inspiring, just so enjoyable."
Kathy and her husband sang with a gospel group in Walnut Ridge for about 8 years. She brought her kids and grandchildren to not only hear music, but also many messages from Bill Gaither and other singers.
Gaither said, "I think from time to time we realize as human beings that our little powering plants are not strong enough to get us through tough times, and so, you know, church has always been an important part of American life."
Fellow singer, Guy Penrod, added, "I don't believe Christians ought to be Christians sometimes and business other times, or entertained other times. You're always a Christian."
"I think that's one of the fruits of the spirit, you know, joy, and so, yes, there's a lot of fun. There's a lot of entertaining moments, but I think there's some times of some very serious ministry also, and I don't think the two are antithesis. I think they go hand in hand," commented Gaither.
