LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A University of Arkansas trustee official says four people from outside the state are interested in becoming president of the University of Arkansas System.
John Anthony told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that two Arkansas business leaders and two academic leaders visited him in Little Rock for a tour of the system office and several other campuses. But Anthony wouldn't provide the leaders' names.
The board has shielded the process from public scrutiny by directing the private University of Arkansas Foundation to pay a Texas firm to conduct the search. There's concern the publicity
might scare off high-profile candidates.
Anthony has held private conversations with potential candidates fielded through the firm.
He says interested parties will submit formal applications when they're assured the board intends to hire them.
