Few wins for health law foes in Ark. Legislature

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republicans who came to Arkansas' Capitol promising to undo the federal health care overhaul are finding that task to be easier said than done.

A second attempt this week to advance legislation allowing the state to prepare for setting up a health exchange under the law could be the last stand for Republicans who vowed to take on the overhaul at the state level.

Efforts to thwart the law, including banning most abortions from being covered through health insurance exchanges and blocking federal money tied to the overhaul from being spent, have failed. And legislative leaders are hoping to complete the session by Friday.

Rep. David Meeks says voters spoke loud and clear that they didn't want the health reform in Arkansas, and he's disappointed that more hasn't been done.
