Four families affected by weekend fire in Region 8

ST. FRANCIS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – An apartment Sunday in St. Francis County leaves 4 families and 21 people homeless.

According to the St. Francis County Sheriff's Department, the fire happened Sunday at the Chapel Ridge Apartments. The sheriff's department believes none of the families had renters insurance.

The American Red Cross is helping with hotel accommodations, but Sheriff Bobby May is coordinating efforts to provide clothing and essentials for all the victims.

An account has been set up at the First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas in the name, "Chapel Ridge Apartment Fire Victims Fund," and a paypal account at ChapelRidgeFire@yahoo.com is connected to the bank account as well.

One resident is a handicapped male confined to a wheelchair. He wears adult diapers; he is approx. 32 in the waist and weighs about 160.
