JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – According to the Arkansas Department of Health, rainwater collected in Arkansas in the past week has shown low-levels of iodine -131.
The ADH says the iodine-131 is an element that has been associated with the nuclear power plant accident in Japan.
The samples were taken from last weeks and Monday's rain events.
William Mason with the Emergency Preparedness Branch says the results were expected and were comparable to results taken across the country. "The results of Arkansas rainwater samples are not at a level that would be harmful to the public," Mason said.
