Gamaliel, AR (KAIT) – For the second time in four months a Region 8 man has been charged with child endangerment.
On Wednesday Baxter County Sheriff's deputies arrested 35-year-old Christopher Leon Osborn of Gamaliel.
According to Sheriff John Montgomery, a neighbor called 911 after she heard a child crying and screaming next door. The woman said when she went to the home to investigate she found an 18-month old baby unattended and Osborn passed out. When she couldn't waken Osborn, the woman took the baby and called for help.
When deputies arrived at the home, they banged on the door for several minutes but could not rouse Osborn. When they entered the home, deputies say they found Osborn passed out with an empty vodka bottle next to him. They also found broken glass all over the floor.
When Osborn finally awoke, deputies say he had no idea what had become of his young son.
Osborn was arrested for endangering the welfare of a minor and later disorderly conduct. Investigators say he become violent in the patrol car. This is the second time Osborn has been charged with child endangerment since December 2010.
Osborn is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center in lieu of bond. He is expected to appear in District Court at a later date.
The child was turned over to the Department of Children and Family Services.
