BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Four Gamaliel area residents are behind bars after a warrant was served on Friday morning.
According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, a criminal investigation began into potential drug activity at the Bayou Resort when authorities were called to the scene of a suspicious structure fire at one of the cabins at the resort on January 18 of this year. Evidence collected at that scene led to investigators conducting surveillance on the location and on two suspects.
Officials say they obtained arrest warrants for Steven Burroughs and Tonya Burroughs and obtained a search warrant for the Bayou Resort on April 7. Deputies tracked the movement of Steven Burroughs on Friday to a store in Mt. Home. Upon his exit of the store he was taken into custody by officers waiting outside.
The sheriff's office says a search warrant was executed on the residents at the resort and found methamphetamine and other articles of drug paraphernalia. They also found several illegal weapons that were loaded and chambered.
During the search of the residents, police arrested Tonya Burroughs along with Kelvin Walde and Tammy Walde, who also lived at the resort. Both admitted to purchasing items used to make methamphetamine at that location. There was also a small child in the residents that was asleep with a loaded weapon in close proximity.
All four suspects are being held on felony charges at the Baxter County Detention Center.
