Rebuilding the Iraqi Government

Secretary of State Colin Powell likes what he sees in Iraq.

While acknowledging a threat from terrorists bent on sabotaging Iraqi self rule, he says the winds of change are bringing a new vibrancy.

Although during a visit to Baghdad, Powell cautioned against rushing self-government.

Powell says ``it's necessary to stay with'' the task of forming a new government and helping the Iraqi people regain their independence.

Powell said at a news conference in Baghdad that the worst thing that could happen would be for the U.S. to push the process too fast and see it fail.

He says the U.S. goal is still to put an ``Iraqi face on things'' as quickly as possible.
