SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- In her first interview since her daughter's killer was convicted and sentenced to death, Vickie Britton spoke to KSLA News 12 in an exclusive interview Monday.

Her daughter, Tavia Sills, was killed in September 2008. Her body was found in a pond off of Legardy in Shreveport.

Lamondre Tucker was convicted in March.

"I didn't ask God for the verdict. I asked God for peace, and God has given me that peace, and I'm ok. The family is ok," she says.

The road to peace has been long for Britton and her family.

"It's hard picking up the pieces, but God is able."

She tells us the trial was emotional, especially when prosecutors played the tapes of Lamondre Tucker's interviews with police. First, he denied doing anything to Tavia. Then he admitted what he did and how.

"I think one of the statements that he made, if I can say that, is he shot her the second and third time to make sure she was dead. That was the part that was really unimaginable," Britton says.

Prosecutors argued that Lamondre Tucker killed Tavia Sills because he believed she was carrying his child, that he didn't want. In court, it came out that the child, Latavion Sills, was not his.

Britton says that makes it a little harder to move on.

"She could have told me the truth, and we could have went from there. It might possibly could have saved her life.

She describes Tucker's conviction and sentence as bittersweet-"I didn't want his mom to go through the pain I went through."

I asked if she forgives him.

"I wanted to let him know personally that I forgive him. There are no hard feelings. He's a young man that needs some help, and when I pray, I pray for him too."

Today, Britton talks to other families who have been victims of violent crimes, and helps connect them with resources that are out there for them.

"My biggest part is speaking so the public will know that there is help if you're a victim of violent crime."
