Man ordered held without bond in fatal shooting

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) – A man remains behind bars Monday after a judge orders him to be held without bond.

50-year-old Charles Cecil of Caruthersville is accused of fatally shooting Stephen "Stevie" Smith on Wednesday, April 13, during an argument.

After he was shot, Caruthersville police say Smith ran to a nearby home and began beating on the door for help.  Paramedics arrived and began life-saving procedures, but he had already died.

Officers say they tracked a blood trail to Cecil's home and arrested him. Cecil is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action, and his is currently being held in the Pemiscot County Justice Center with no bond.
