FAYETTEVILLE (NWAOnline.com) - Early on, it's shaping up to be another big year recruiting in-state for Arkansas' football program.
The Razorbacks picked up a verbal commitment over the weekend from East Poinsett County junior linebacker A.J. Turner, who was one of approximately 75 recruits on-hand Saturday to watch Arkansas' spring game.
Turner is the third in-state prospect to commit to Arkansas in the class of 2012, joining Pottsville offensive lineman Jeremy Ward and Warren wide receiver Jalen Cobb. The Razorbacks also picked up a verbal commitment last week from Nate Holmes, a running back/wide receiver at Memorial High School in Port Arthur, Texas.
As a junior at EPC, Turner (6-foot-3, 207 pounds) led the state of Arkansas with 177 tackles. On the offensive side of the ball, Turner accounted for 1,327 yards and 21 touchdowns.
A two-sport star, Turner was a member of EPC's state championship winning basketball team this season, playing alongside Arkansas basketball signee Ky Madden. Turner is currently playing with the Arkansas Wings' AAU team.
