WALNUT RIDGE, AR (WBC) - Williams Baptist College is still climbing in the NAIA top 25 softball rankings. The latest rankings, released Tuesday afternoon, place the Lady Eagles 15th in the country. They had been ranked number 18 the past two weeks.
The rankings come a day after WBC secured at least a tie for the regular season conference title. The team also clinched the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament. It is the second year in a row for Williams to win at least a share of the AMC championship.
WBC concluded its conference schedule Monday with a doubleheader at Harris-Stowe, winning the first game, 4-3, but dropping the nightcap, 2-1. The split put the Lady Eagles' record at 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the AMC.
Columbia, which is 9-3 in the AMC and has four conference games to go, is the only team within reach of a tie with Williams at the top of the standings. If that were to happen, conference rules would give the tie-breaker to Williams for the top tournament seed, based on head-to-head contests between the two schools this season.
The first round of the AMC Tournament is scheduled for April 29-30. Williams, as the top seed, will play at home for all of its games throughout the tournament. Each round will be a best-of-three series, and the Lady Eagles will host the AMC's 8th seed in the first round.
