JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) - Missouri's attorney general says a Florida-based debt settlement company has agreed to refund all fees paid by customers in Missouri and stop operating in the state.
Chris Koster's office says Vortex Debt Group Inc. promised to reduce consumers' debt and took significant up-front fees to do so. But the attorney general says instead customers often were left with more debt and less money.
The judgment filed Wednesday in St. Louis County Circuit Court says Vortex will no longer accept business from Missourians and will refund fees paid by customers who submit claims to Koster's office.
Koster said residents need to be aware that it is illegal in Missouri for such businesses to collect up-front fees before providing the service.
