Carter Co. adds special election for sheriff

CARTER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Carter County set a date for a special election for a new sheriff.

The county clerk says the election will be held on June 7.

Republican Don Frazier is the only name on the ballot so far.

The Democrats will choose their candidate Thursday night.

Interim Sheriff Rick Stephens did not make it on the ballot despite formal requests from county leaders due to residency issues.

However, Stephens says he will have those issues resolved in time to run in the general election in February 2012.

The special election is being held following former Sheriff Tommy Adams' resignation due to drug charges earlier in April.
