JONESBORO, AR (RUGBYMag.com) The RUGBYMag.com Rankings stay at a steady 88% clip in terms of predicting games. But there were two upsets this week. Rutgers (25) beat Kutztown (15) 15-13. Obviously this was a close match, and perhaps says more about how close Rutgers has come than anything else. Rutgers gets moved up as a result, but not past Kutztown. Why? Well Rutgers beat KU, which beat Delaware, which beat Rutgers … we could have them all tie, but in the end we look at the numbers. Counting just those three matches, KU and Delaware come out with a 1-1 record and a +6 points difference. Rutgers is 1-1 and -12. So Rutgers should be third among those three. We revert back to head-to-head for Kutztown and Delaware, which is why Kutztown doesn't drop.
The other upset was #29 UC Davis over #27 Claremont Colleges. All this after our careful ranking of the bottommost teams.
Only one result really gives us pause this week: Army over Penn State. Army did a number (the number being 50) on PSU and that performance bumps them up to #4. Army or Navy could crack the top three with a convincing win against the other next week.
