JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) - After setting a new Sun Belt Conference and school record in the pole vault last weekend at the Mississippi Invitational, Arkansas State's Stephanie Foreman has been named the SBC Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Foreman, a junior from Hot Springs, cleared the bar at 13-6.25 to win the event Saturday in Oxford, breaking her own record of 13-5.75 set last May at the Louisville Cardinal Twilight Classic.
"Stephanie is really coming around as one of the best pole vaulters in the NCAA," said ASU head coach Lon Badeaux. "We are very proud of her in winning this week's award."
Foreman's effort at the Mississippi Invitational led the Red Wolves to a 1-3-4 finish in the pole vault, with seniors Erica Naeger and Jennifer Day finishing third and fourth, respectively.
Foreman is the reigning Sun Belt Conference champion in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault. She won the indoor and outdoor league titles in both her freshman and sophomore seasons and captured the indoor title again this year at the Feb. 27-28 Sun Belt Conference Championships at the ASU Convocation Center.
Foreman and the Red Wolves will wrap up the regular season Saturday at the Memphis Invitational, then travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. May 13-15 for the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships.
