Homes, City Hall evacuated in Hardy in NE Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - The Spring River in northeast Arkansas is flooding homes in the city of Hardy.

Hardy Mayor Nina Thornton said Monday that City Hall is also evacuating in anticipation of flooding.

The homes along the river are mainly vacation homes and that the river is expected to be 11 feet above flood stage.

Thornton says the Spring River is forecast to reach at least 21 feet. When she spoke Monday morning, the river had already reached 15 feet, which she says is considered a major flood stage.

If the river reaches 21 feet, Thornton says City Hall will get about six inches of water. Thornton also says city workers just finished moving back into the building after the last flood.

The mayor says the city has flood insurance for the building.
