Evacuation order for Poplar Bluff lifted, "Buff Up the Bluff" still on

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT & KFVS) – According to Lieutenant David Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, the temporary evacuation order for the area of south Poplar Bluff on Ashcroft Road and WW Highway (Ditch Road) has been lifted.

Sutton says "Buff Up the Bluff" will still be held on May 14, and residents are encouraged to use this event to dispose of damaged or contaminated items left behind by the flood. He mentioned that participants will be required to provide proof of residency within corporate city limits.

Sutton says Highway 53 south of Poplar Bluff is still closed. Residents are requested to completely stay away from affected areas for the safety of both themselves and emergency personnel .

Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce President Steve Halter will coordinate donations of non-perishable supplies, and can be reached at (573) 785-7761.

The donation center is at the Old MAG building. Take Highway 67 South, turn onto Butler County Road (in front of Hart's Catfish), drive 300 yards and turn right.

Deliveries and pickups to and from the center will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Conditioner

Monetary donations for the Red Cross can be made online at www.redcross-ozarks.org. The United Gospel Rescue Mission will also accept donations.
