Police Arrest Alleged Dollar General Bandit

September 23, 2003 - Posted at: 11:09 a.m. CDT

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Could the recent rash of robberies of local Dollar General stores in northeast Arkansas have been aided by a former store employee?

That's the accusation from the man who's confessed to at least three of the seven robberies.

In a probable cause affidavit, Taiwann Thomas claims he decided to carry out the crimes after he was told about the first robbery, on June 14, by a former Dollar General employee.  Thomas also said that he and the former employee were, "Doing the same type of robberies."  Jonesboro police detective Ray Burmeister told K8 News, "They had inside information on that, how to go about robbing the stores."

Thomas is also considered a suspect in the other four Dollar General hold-ups.  Six of the seven crimes occured at Jonesboro-area stores, while the other happened in Paragould.
