Authorities Say Two Men Are Dead After Land Dispute

SEDGWICK, Ark. -- Lawrence County authorities have confirmed that two men are dead as the result of an apparent murder-suicide that occurred shortly after 11 this morning in a field near the Lawrence and Greene County lines, just east of Sedgwick off U.S. 63.

Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies say 53-year-old Murle Lamb shot and killed Rusty Reithemeyer, 33, of Sedgwick, while Reithemeyer was harvesting grain on a combine. The incident marks the first homicide in Lawrence County this year. The bodies of both men are to be sent to the state crime laboratory for autopsies.

Lawrence County Investigator Jody Dotson told K8 news witnesses told them the dispute started when the young farmer, Rusty Reithemeyer and Lamb fought over who owned land behind Lamb's house. They say Reithemeyer got proof from a surveyor that the land was, in fact, Reithemeyer's property. When Lamb asked Reithemeyer to sell him the land, they started to fight. "The victim was 5 gunshot wounds, and apparently the perpetrator had one self inflicted wound", said Dotson.
