JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - "It's becoming a serious concern even in areas that normally people don't worry about flooding," said Director of the Craighead County Office of Emergency Management, David Moore.

Not only are the worries with flooding...

"We're going to monitor the levees, we're going to monitor the flooded areas, we're going to keep as close of a watch as possible," said Moore.

How to escape those rising waters is cause for concern for an increasing number of Region 8 households.

What is it going to take to survive somewhere else?

That's the question Moore says needs to be asked.

"I'd have a "to go" bag sitting there ready to put in the car at any time," said Moore.

Moore says that bag needs to have medications, important documents, extra clothes, and a battery-powered radio and batteries.

Jeff Presley at 9-1-1 says stay "tuned in" to what's going on to help decide when and if you need to evacuate.  Monitor  television and radio for immediate updates about threatening or potentially threatening weather conditions.

"It's better to plan ahead, be ready to go if that evacuation is called out," said Presley.

Back at the OEM, David Moore says to protect valuables from water, utilize attic space if available , or put them on high counter tops or cabinets not on something that could float away like a chest freezer or refrigerator.
