Wide receiver Lance Ray granted release by Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE (ArkansasSports360.com) - Lance Ray's absence from the Arkansas football team will extend beyond the spring. Ray, a sophomore wide receiver who was noticeably missing from practices following a Jan. 30 misdemeanor marijuana possession arrest, has requested a release from the Razorbacks.

That release has been granted, Coach Bobby Petrino confirmed Monday.

Ray appeared in nine games last season, including the final eight. He had only one catch, but filled in on kick returns after Dennis Johnson was lost for the season due to injury. Ray averaged 22.5 yards per return.

Wide receiver is arguably the deepest position on the team. Ray had fallen behind at the position by missing spring practice and figured to have a difficult time making up ground.

Ray is from Havana, Fla. Other schools that recruited him from East Gadsen High included LSU, Illinois, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Kentucky.
