Nearly 3,000 Arkansas National Guard soldiers are heading for Iraq, including units stationed at Walnut Ridge, Wynne, Harrisburg, Newport, and Augusta.
Major General Don Morrow, announced that the guard's 39th infantry brigade has been mobilized to go on active duty October 12th.
The soldiers will gather at their hometown units on the 12th and travel to their mobilization station at Fort Hood, Texas.
The brigade has been on alert since July and the mobilization order is effective for up to 1 year of duty in Iraq, but that period may be extended to18 months.
