WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) –The drug police and sheriff departments have been fighting most over the past several years is prescription drugs. Obtained legally from a doctor by one person, these drugs are often stolen from medicine cabinets and then used illegally to get high. Tuesday officers from all across Northeast Arkansas gathered in Lawrence County to take a class to learn more about these types of drugs.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson said the class, taught by Purdue Pharmaceutical was offered free of charge. He said learning more about the drugs helps keep police officers more informed about what they're facing.
"They're here to talk about the different things to look for on the prescription drug investigations some of the street names and what people are actually doing with these illegal prescription drugs in order to get high," said Sheriff Jody Dotson.
Dotson said the Criminal Justice Institute partnered with the sheriff's department to make this training possible.
