Sheryl Crow To Help Build New Pool for Hometown of Kennett

September 30, 2003 - Posted at: 3:07 p.m. CDT

KENNETT, Mo. -- If Sheryl Crow wants to soak up some sun, she'll eventually be able to do it in the municipal pool she plans to help build in her hometown.

The nine-time Grammy winner, along with civic leaders in the Missouri Bootheel community of Kennett, announced this week plans to build a new pool just off the town square.  Details about Crow's financial commitment were not disclosed, and it wasn't known when construction would begin or the pool would open.

Kennett voters have defeated several attempts over the past decade to finance a new pool.  Under the new plan, no public money will be used, though matching economic development funds may be sought.

Crow sees the pool as a way of helping to revitalize downtown Kennett.
