SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT)- An illegal road hunting complaint in Sharp County results in two arrests and the discovery of several weapons.
According to the Sharp County Sheriff's Office, on May 3rd officers responded to a complaint of someone road hunting on Turkey Pin Road east of Highland. Officers say they made contact with Marilyn Mitchell who was near the vehicle described in the complaint and found a turkey in the back of her truck.
Mitchell told officers she hit the bird with her truck and had to put it down with a pistol. Officers followed Mitchell to a cabin to locate the pistol. Officers could not find the pistol at first, but noticed something sticking out of a brush pile. After that officers say they located two shotguns, a tactical vest with two pistols along with a box that contained an AK47 assault rifle and an ammo can that had a large amount of ammunition.
Mitchell and her sister were questioned and officers learned that the guns belonged to Alan Chaffin, 31 of Jonesboro. Chaffin, police learned, was a convicted felon and fled to the woods before officers got to the cabin.
Police located Chaffin a short time later and took him into custody. Officers found a receipt for the purchase of the AK47 in Chaffin's pocket.
Chaffin was charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons a class D felony and felony fleeing a class D felony. Bond was set at a total of $16,040 for both charges.
