HUGHES, Ark. -- Another employee of a Region 8 school has been arrested on sex-related charges.

St. Francis County authorities told K8 News that they have arrested John Bateman, 30, on charges of sexual indecency with a child.   Bateman is a coach and teacher at Hughes High School.

He was arrested Tuesday after an investigation by the Arkansas State Police's 'Crimes Against Children' division, and is currently free on $5,000 bond following an initial court appearance this afternoon.  According to a police affidavit, "The alleged female victim stated to the Hughes Police Department, in a written statement, on September 15, 2003 that back in February 2003, the alleged suspect had pulled his clothes off and exposed his genitals to her and she ran out of the room.  The incident allegedly took place in the laundry room of the new high school gym, at Hughes High School."

Bateman's next court appearance is October 14.

His arrest comes after similar incidents in the past year involving school faculty or administrators in Poinsett, Mississippi and Randolph Counties.
