Harding Baseball's Dr. Patrick McGaha named GSC West Coach of the Year

Harding head baseball coach Dr. Patrick McGaha was named Gulf South Conference West Division Coach of the Year on Friday.

McGaha, in his sixth season as Harding's head coach, led the Bisons to a 41-12 record, a GSC West Division championship, and a spot in the GSC Tournament championship game. Harding was selected to play in its first NCAA South Region Tournament.

The GSC West championship was Harding's first regular season conference championship in baseball since 1984, when the Bisons won the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference.

McGaha's Harding squad had seven players named to the All-GSC Team, the most ever for a Bison baseball team.

A native of Searcy, Ark., McGaha lettered four seasons on the Harding baseball team from 1988-91.

McGaha is the first Harding baseball coach to earn conference coach of the year honors since Dick Johnson in 1984.

With McGaha's honor, Harding has received three GSC Coach of the Year honors during the 2010-11 school year. Steve Guymon won the honor in men's cross country and Ronnie Huckeba received the award in football.
