BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - Missouri's fourth cemetery dedicated to the state's war veterans is ready to open.
The Missouri Veterans Commission has set October 12 for dedication of the new Missouri Veterans Cemetery on 38 acres of rolling hills near Bloomfield (Stoddard County), in southeast Missouri. Anchor 29 acres are available for a later expansion.
The state began building cemeteries for veterans in 1992. The others are at Higginsville, Springfield and Jacksonville.
The Bloomfield Cemetery is near the Stars & Stripes Museum and Library.
The cemetery is available to all veterans who lived at least six months in Missouri. Members of the vet's family also can be buried there.
The burial plot and other elements of the burial are free.
