JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- The Arkansas Department of Health says that "Lazy Cakes" snack food should not be eaten.
According to a news release, the ADH is banning the sale of the cakes because of they contain melatonin, a substance that has not been approved for general food use. Melatonin, according to the ADH, is a dietary supplement used for the treatment of sleeping disorders.
ADH officials say the product poses a potential health risk to consumers because side effects of melatonin have not been fully determined. The snack food has been distributed throughout the state, mainly in convenience stores.
Those who have "Lazy Cakes" are urged to discard them.
