JOPLIN, MO (KAIT) - Storms rolling through parts of the Midwest have left at least 24 dead according to officials and there are expected to be more deaths.
The worst hit area was Joplin, Missouri which was hit by a powerful tornado which according to one Red Cross official leveled 75 percent of the city. Governor Jay Nixon has already declared a state of emergency for the area and has activated the Missouri National Guard to help with respond to the disaster.
Officials are also worried about the possibility of gas explosions throughout the city of about 50,000 people.
