From Harding University
For the second consecutive year, Harding women's tennis players Gina Cielo and Janet Orgain were both named to the Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team on Tuesday. It was the second academic all-district honor for both student-athletes.
Harding's women's tennis team has had at least one academic all-district honoree each season since 2005.
A junior from Lees Summit, Mo., Cielo compiled a 13-4 singles record and a 9-7 doubles mark for the Lady Bisons in 2010-11. Cielo is a public relations major with a 3.95 grade point average.
Orgain, a senior from Trenton, Tenn., went 9-2 in singles play and had a perfect 9-0 record in doubles this season. She has won 16 straight doubles matches over the last two seasons. Orgain is also a public relations major with a 3.98 grade point average.
The Capitol One Academic All-District teams are voted on by the district's sports information directors. District VI includes NCAA II, NCAA III, and NAIA schools in Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mississippi.
The At-Large Teams include student-athletes from several different spring sports, but the team is primarily made up of tennis players and golfers.
Cielo and Orgain will now move on to the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America Team will be released Tuesday, June 7.
