Harding Baseball's Jason Nappi named Academic All-American

From Harding University

Harding University senior third baseman Jason Nappi was named Capital One 2nd Team Academic All-America on Tuesday, becoming just the second Harding baseball player ever to earn the honor.

Nappi, a native of Birmingham, Ala., led the Harding offense in nearly every category in 2011. He was tops on the team in batting average (.384), home runs (9), RBI (54) and stolen bases (20).

Nappi was a graduate student in Harding's College of Business during the 2010-11 school year, pursing a master's degree in business management and ethics. He had a 3.47 grade point average as an undergraduate and a perfect 4.00 GPA in grad school.

Nappi, who transferred to Harding from Mississippi State following his sophomore season, became Harding baseball's first academic all-American since Kevin Burton earned third-team honors in 1995. He is the first Harding student-athlete to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors during the 2010-11 school year. Nappi was also the only baseball player from the Gulf South Conference honored on any of the three academic all-America teams.
