JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-Two organizations are striving to get Region 8 residents back to work.
The Paragould Chamber of Commerce and Arkansas Workforce Centers sponsored the Paragould Regional Job Fair on Thursday.
Representatives from twenty-four different organizations were standing by to provide potential employees with information.
Director of Economic Development of the Paragould Chamber of Commerce, Sue McGowan, says she's seen an encouraging shift in the job market.
"We're seeing an upturn in the job market in the area and we have a lot of our employers who are needing employees and so we felt like this was a good opportunity for us to offer a venue where they could all come together and the person seeking employment could come to one location to see what jobs are available in the area."
Peggy Baker of Paragould is one of those people.
Peggy was waiting in line outside the Paragould Community Center in the hopes of discovering some opportunities.
"There's more jobs than what I thought there was and I think it helps people fill out more applications and get involved."
Applications for both temporary and permanent positions were available.
McGowan says there is a wide variety of positions waiting to be snapped up.
"There's all kinds of jobs available. We've got entry level jobs, skilled labor jobs and also professional jobs out here today."
McGowan says a job fair like this is advantageous to both the employer and the employee.
"This is great because it gives companies a large number of people that will visit their booth that are looking for employment."
A Mobile Workforce Center unit was even in place, set up with computers and Internet access to assist people with resume preparation and additional job searches.
The job fair lasted from ten until four.
