Hot night should be a lot cooler

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -- Last year's National Night Out was a hot one.  It was so hot, many Jonesboro residents did not participate in the annual festivities.  This year should be a little better.

After talking with several neighborhood groups who sponsor NNO gatherings, the Jonesboro Police Department has agreed to change the date.  Instead of sweltering in the early August heat, this year's event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4th.

National Night Out is a chance for people to turn on their porch lights and meet their neighbors, all in an effort to fight crime in their community.  Neighborhood groups usually organize cookouts and family-oriented block parties.  The festivities usually begin around 5pm and end around 8:30pm.

Any person or group planning a block party or neighborhood celebration is encouraged to register the event.  That way police officers can visit the party and meet with residents to discuss crime prevention issues.  To register, call Sgt. Stephen McDaniel at 870-336-7117.
