TURLOCK, Calif. – Running two nationals finals in less than two hours, Harding senior Daniel Kirwa added two more All-America honors to his resume at the 2011 NCAA II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Running at 6:15 p.m., local time, Kirwa placed eighth in the 1500 meters in 3 minutes, 59.14 seconds. It was his first time to compete in the 1500 meters at the national meet. The top eight in each event earn All-America honors.
At 8 p.m., Kirwa ran in his specialty, the 5000 meters, and placed third in 14:13.29. He was exactly one second behind the winner, Luke Cragg of Adams State.
With his finishes Saturday, Kirwa ran his career outdoor All-America total to eight. He has one All-America honor in the 1500 meters, four All-America honors and one national championship in the 5000 meters, and three All-America honors and two national championships in the 10,000 meters.
Kirwa scored seven points for Harding in his two races, enough to place Harding tied for 35th in the team competition.
