PORTIA, AR (KAIT) – A Louisiana man traveling through Lawrence County apparently packed more than just clothes and a toothbrush in his luggage.  Sheriff Jody Dotson says he also had marijuana and meth.

According to the police report, on Sunday a Lawrence County deputy saw 26-year-old Schmitt weaving across the center line as he drove near Portia.  With the help of a Portia police officer, the deputy pulled Schmitt over.

Officers asked Schmitt if he had any illegal substances in his vehicle.  Schmitt apparently told the officers he did.  Investigators say Schmitt pulled out a baggie of marijuana and a pill bottle containing methamphetamine.

Schmitt was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail to await a bond hearing.  Bond was set at $2,500 and ordered to appear in Circuit Court on June 29.
