PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (KAIT) – Four Pemiscot County Sheriff's Deputies are being sent to Joplin to help with emergency law enforcement operations.
According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, the deputies are being sent because of a request for assistance from the Missouri Sheriff's Association for veteran personnel. Sheriff Greenwell says the deputies will arrive in Joplin on June 4 and are scheduled to work through June 11 working 12-hour shifts.
"Sheriff's Office personnel volunteered to go right after the tornado struck Joplin, but it was requested that we wait," added Sheriff Greenwell. "This was done so the situation could be better assessed and volunteers and assets could be properly utilized."
Greenwell says each deputy going to Joplin volunteered for the assignment.
Deployments to Joplin are being coordinated through the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Missouri Sheriff's Association, and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
